September 2024 Bullet Journal | Blue and Orange

A Bullet Journal is a great way to keep your life in one place and have notes on what you need to do while being creative!

And just like that. August has passed and we are now beginning September. Where did the month go? I feel like I simultaneously was productive and got absolutely nothing done. I posted less than I planned to but also got the rest of my life in order.

September

I was in two minds about what to do for September. There was a debate in my head between a simple (well… not that simple) drawing and doing a plaid design. I opted for the plaid design because I was curious to see how different mediums and different colors would do in creating something like that.

There was no prep work needed for this month as I wanted to use a ruler to create all the lines. The biggest challenge was picking colors and mediums. My favorite color combination is orange and blue (I used those colors for my wedding!) so I decided to go with that.

Then came the time to pick out the mediums and grab a blue and orange of each. I went with a highlighter, marker, sparkly marker, and pen. The highlighter and sparkly marker were great for making thick lines and the marker for medium lines. While the pen and pencil were good for thin lines and adding edging to some of the thicker lines..

Creating a pattern of sorts was fun. I didn’t really have any method to my madness, just picking a spot and making a line. I did try to alternate horizontal and vertical lines but changed the positioning. It didn’t really matter but, in my head, alternating created a better weaving effect.

September Habits and Calendar

The September pattern easily applied to the calendar and habit tracker. The nice part about doing a plaid pattern was the ability to create edges. Plaid doesn’t really need to fit the page and the only limitation is up and down / left and right. And doing straight lines really identifies where each line will go and through what on the page. This makes it easier to have the design running behind the calendar and habit tracker.

Last Month’s Habits

I am a little proud of myself for how well I existed in August. It really was a good month even though some things got away from me. But I was able to do some habits that I normally struggle to do. Exercising is still a big one, but I did pick up drumming and I feel like that is a workout every time I play. My respect for drummers has gone up even more.

Mixing Mediums

One thing I was very conscious of is how did the different mediums work when overlapping with each other. Would some smudge? Did I need to let some dry before adding the next layer? There were many tests that I ended up doing before actually committing the design to my journal. It’s better to be safe and check rather than run into issues when trying to make the final image.
