2025 November – Bullet Journal

My October disappeared…. It’s funny how vacation has a habit of stealing the time you’re off as well as a bit from before and after as well. I am sad that I didn’t get to do a spooky movie marathon for October, but there’s always next year.

But now it’s November! The colors on the trees this year are absolutely gorgeous. I feel like I’m driving through a rainbow on my commute to and from work. The area has always had canopies of trees covering some of the roads. And when the leaves start changing color it can take your breath away.

The only downside is the cold. I am sad to say that the weather has officially switched from sweater weather to just plain cold. While the temperatures aren’t going too drastic (yet), the wind has a biting chill to it. I do think it’s time for me to bust out the hat, gloves, and scarf.

I wanted to bring those leaves into my November spread because of the colors. There is a combination of beauty, serenity, and profoundness all intertwined. The base of the spread always was going to be spread across 4 pages like it was in October. Having more space worked very well. It just felt…. Whole.

The monthly spread started with a sketch of the various areas.  Where did the calendar go? The title? How much space would be left? So many questions. The calendar and title outline were straight forward but I had to stop and think what to do with the empty space surrounding it.

I knew that I wanted to make trees and leaves, but I thought some of the space felt a bit too big for only that. It was calling for something else.

I ended up putting a quote in the corner. Word art is always difficult for me since it’s a balance of fonts and sizes. This one came out well enough. But some of the overlapping did make the design a bit more difficult.

For the trees, I approached it with a dotting approach. More impressionistic. I outlined the tree trunks a put some floating branches above each tree. Then I would pick out a few colors and add them in spots to cover the area and create the tree shape. I also added leaves to the base of the trees cause there are leaves everywhere right now.

November Habits and Calendar

I wanted to make a solid calendar, but the design was too big to fit on one page. I figured it would be better to let it overflow onto the adjacent page than shrink it to make it fit. Then I made my 5 by 7 grid. And honestly, that was the mistake from the outset. Because I was looking at October when I was conceptualizing this calendar.

And October didn’t have a single-day week like November did. I do not like single days weeks, they make things look less pretty. But I only realized this after I made the grid, so I just went with it and tried to fill in the empty spaces with leaves on the wind.

For the habit trackers, I did keep the spread that I used for October. I thought it worked well for keeping my habits up to every day. Not having to flip between pages feels good and I wanted to keep that feeling going into this month especially since I feel like other places of my life are falling apart.

Last Month’s Habits

I’m going to take a pass on the October habits since I was traveling for quite a bit of the month. It’s quite hard to cook on a regular basis without a kitchen. Heck, I didn’t even have access to a microwave. Learning to be lenient on myself is going to be a lifelong lesson.

Lessons

By the Hour

Most of my weekly spreads are broken by day where I can make a list of tasks. But for my travels, I like doing an hour by hour spread. Especially when it comes to planning events on the trip. Having an hour-by-hour breakdown is really nice to show where there is downtime and makes me think more about the time in-between.
