2026 March Bullet Journal: The Star, the moon, and the sun

I don’t think I know how time works. Some days are fast, others are slow. Sometimes you feel like a few weeks have been lost. It is odd, but several people around me have also felt that this year is going by rather quickly. March has been one of the weirdest months I have seen in a while.

The weather has gone crazy, going from a high of 70° one day to 20° the next. This new cold snap is effectively the third winter. And a meteor decided to visit as well. Life just feels kind of wild and out of control right now. And these are the moments that I turn to my bullet journal for order.

I decided to use three Tarot cards to inspire my March spread: The Star, the Moon, and the Sun. These three cards fit together in what I think is a kind of apparent way. I didn’t realize until after that I could have also taken some design inspiration from the cover of my notebook. Ooops!

To start, I wanted to see how the calendar would impact the page. I started with three days on the left and four days on the right, centered vertically on the page. The top was perfectly straight since the first day of the month was on a Sunday. With the three extra days at the bottom, the bottom-right ended up with the most horizontal space.

I figured the title would fit there rather nicely. I didn’t really bother with spacing at this point, since March is a relatively short word.

I knew that I wanted the moon on one side and the sun on the other. The stars felt like they aligned more with the moon as well. I decided to take some inspiration from traditional tarot and draw the sun with a more classic face while alternating between straight and squiggly lines. It ended up spreading out quite a bit.

For the moon, I also wanted to make a more classic face and shape. But I also wanted something more…. Interesting on that side, besides just the stars. I did notice that several tarot decks had water imagery on the moon card, so I decided that would be a good approach, putting water in the bottom left corner.

Coloring the Design

When I went to grab my markers, I was struck by a horrible dilemma. They had run dry. Well… the light yellow had. The light yellow was the main color I wanted for the sun, which took up a lot of the page. But going through my supplies, another thought hit me. Why not use a highlighter? While I had to be a bit more cautious, the highlighter color filled in well and gave a light kind of effect. I did use the dark yellow marker to add some highlights as well, in hopes of giving the sun some depth.

Spurred on by the success of the highlighter, I picked out a few more to color the sky around the sun and the moon. I was worried about the color coming out too dark on the night side, so I ended up doing a standard blue for the night and a more aqua type of blue for the sun. It feels a bit weird, but I do like the contrast that it was able to bring out.

The one big issue I have with doing fully colored pages is that they tend to curl around the edges. The best way to address this is gently curling the page in the other direction. Doing this steadily a few times will help the paper go back to its flatter form.

Last Month’s Habits

I continued using the layout last month, so there’s not too much new to talk about. I do want to look back on the habits that I completed throughout February. I was good at tracking everything for about 75% of the month. The last week, I got caught up in plans for travel. So, I ended up doing some backfill on those days. While I didn’t do all my habits, I was still consistent about the ones I have developed.

Every month, I question myself about a few of the habits that I track. Mainly the ones I don’t do. But even if it ends up being an empty box, I still want to use this small amount of space to try to encourage myself to do these things.
