Rye Soda Bread

This is a quick baking bread without the need to rise that is full of earthy, nutty goodness.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 50 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 5 minutes
Servings: 4 Loaves

Ingredients
  

  • 2 ⅓ Cup Rye Flour
  • 1 ¾ Cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 ¾ Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 ¼ Teaspoon Salt
  • 2 Cup Buttermilk

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. In a large bowl, mix the rye flour, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt together
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry mixtures and pour in the buttermilk.
  4. Stir until a dough combines. Turn out dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for approximately 1 minute to bring the dough together. 
  5. Divide dough into four even pieces. Shape each piece into a circular disc. Using a sharp knife, create an x cut across the top of each disc.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes on the lower rack(should be close to the middle of the oven). Then move the dough from the bottom rack to the top rack and bake for another 20 minutes.
  7. Let cool before serving.
