Course: Dessert, Snack

Ingredients

  • 4 Cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 ⅛ Cup Butter melted
  • ¾ Cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 ½ Tsp Active Dry Yeast
  • ¼ Cup Milk warm
  • 1 Egg

Method

  1. In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, yeast
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together butter, milk, and egg
  3. Mix the butter mixture into the flour mixture until the dough becomes stiff to stir
  4. Turned out onto a flour surface and knead by hand until it comes together
  5. Set aside to rise for 45 minutes.
  6. Preheat your iron. Divide dough into 2 inch balls (or a size compatible with your iron).
  7. Press each ball in the preheated iron and cook until the iron stops releasing steam or until the waffles are golden brown.
  8. Carefully remove from the iron and split it half horizontally while still warm.
  9. Spread filling (see Spiced Caramel) on the inside before putting halves back together.

Notes

Cutting the waffles in half can be difficult as they need to still be hot to be cut in half. If you can't split the waffles, for any reason, just sandwich the filling between two waffles.
