2024 April Bullet Journal

A Bullet Journal is a great way to keep your life in one place and have notes on what you need to do while being creative!

While I am excited for April, I am a little sad that March is behind us. March was a very productive month for me, and I wanted to stay in it a little longer. But hey! Let’s see if I can carry this momentum into April.

And there is a lot in April to be excited about! Mainly the Total Solar Eclipse!! I am lucky because I live close to directly in the path of the solar eclipse and I’m ready to feel this experience! Typically, solar eclipses happen about every ten ish years and can only be seen in a small portion of the world.

This year, the solar eclipse is spanning from coast to coast of the United States which I find exciting! A lot of eclipses happen over the oceans, so I have not really gotten a good chance to see one in my adult life (If I have seen one before, I don’t quite remember it). And that’s just how April will start off, who knows how the rest of the month will go!

April

There is a classic saying of April showers brings May flower. Well, the showers are happening a little bit earlier than normal but I’m still leaning into the saying. So, I decided that my April spread would be all about rain. And what comes with rain? Umbrellas!

I also wanted to approach this month a little differently than I have in the past. Previously, I would do the original sketch and then do a pen outline. But not this time. I wanted to a do a dot drawing technique this month and that meant no outline!

The first step was picking out a color for the handle of the umbrella. I leaned into the brown, black, and grays for this step. The handle was made from large dots, and I did small dots for the spider that holds the fabric. Not sure what that’s called but it reminds me of mechanical spider legs so that’s what I’m going with.

Then I used large colored dots to fill in the fabric sections of the umbrella. I thought this would be good to add some more non-blue moments into the page. After the umbrellas were done, it was onto the clouds.

I had a large internal debate about how I should approach the clouds. Typically, clouds are white. But white on white paper isn’t going to be the best look. So, I decided to go with light blue. But a light blue blob also felt a little monotonous. Finally, I landed on do alternating stripes of light blue and gray. This gave the clouds a bit more structure and a defined look.

All that’s left is to add the rain. I used three different colors because that seemed fun. And I just went to town and let my hands take the lead.

April Habits and Calendar

I did carry over the rain theme over to my habits and calendar page. And yea…. I went a little wild. The rain should fill up the white space! Although I might have filled up a little too much of the white space. But I thought it looked good.

One difficulty working around the tracker and calendar was making the clouds. There were quite a few areas where the clouds were obstructed by other parts of the page. While the clouds still had a relatively complete look, I felt like they just felt a little off. Or maybe too big?

But either way I had fun! I did mess up a little bit with the rain rolling off the umbrella. Or rather, I forgot about the umbrella and had a streak of rain go straight through it. Oops!

Last Month’s Habits

Although the colors are a little more muted, I really do like the highlighter approach to last months habits. It looks a little cleaner to me and I do wonder why I haven’t done it for the past 10 years I’ve been doing bullet journals. O.O Seems like a missed opportunity.

I do feel like I did better in March than I did in February for my habits. There is always room for improvement but that’s why I track! To remind myself of the area where I can grow and improve.

Creating Reminders

Sometimes it’s good to use the blank pages of a journal to create reminders for yourself. This could be quotes, inspiration word bubbles, puzzles or trackers, really anything. For me, one piece of information that I never want to lose is my “Personal Bill of Rights” that I got from my most recent time in IOP.

I didn’t have stickers labels 1-25 so I just repeated numbers. Lemme get all vulnerable. There are quite a couple of rights I struggle with like “I have the right to mistakes and not be perfect” and “I have the right to be happy”. These things are so hard for me.

Your spreads turned out great! I particularly love your pointillism front cover and the personal bill of rights page. We’ve had so much rain so far this month and one of the flower beds in our once lovely back garden is constantly flooded at the moment.
