These Arkham Horror Mini Magnets are a great way to display symbols from Arkham in a compact form!
Did I ever mention how much I love Arkham Horror LCG? Cause I do. A lot. And I know I have made magnets before that had the symbol and titles of each set. But, as time went on, picking up these magnets did become a slight hassle as there was no easy grip points. And some of them, unfortunately, frayed around the edges.
So, I thought, how can I solve this problem? What do other magnets do? Then I came across the clear dome magnet idea. And I got very excited. While the circular space does not allow me to have the cut-out words, I was very excited to create sets of symbols. The only one I could not make was circle undone. The tiny pieces of the broken infinity symbol were just too small.
All the other sets turned out really well! I did ever core campaign set from “Night of the Zealot” to “The Feast at Hemlock Vale” as well as two of the stand-alone campaigns. But I am looking at doing magnets for all the stand-alone campaigns as well as for the investigator suites (guardian, seeker, rogue, mystic, survivor, neutral). This is just a fun easy project (with the right tools) or you can find these in my shop!

Supplies
For each of these Arkham Horror Mini Magnets, I used the following:
- 1 Clear Dome Cabochon Glass
- 1 1-inch by 1-inch piece of white sticker vinyl
- 1 1-inch by 1-inch piece of black sticker vinyl
- 1 1-inch by 1-inch piece of green construction paper, or others depending on if doing suit symbols
- 1 Circular Magnet, same size as clear dome cabochon glass
- Superglue
I decided to use superglue for this project because the weight of the clear dome cabochon glass proved to be heavy for other types of adhesives. And I was adamant that were would not come apart.
Process
Prepping the Design
The first step in making these Arkham Horror Mini Magnets was creating the paper layer that would be the design. I used the black vinyl to cut out the desired set symbol and the white vinyl to create an outline. The set symbol used in the video below is from “The Feast of Hemlock Vale” (the newest released set).
I also cut out a circle from the construction paper that was the size of the clear dome cabochon glass. I originally cut the piece to be 1-inch by 1-inch, but I later found that the actual size is .98-inch by .98-inch. So, the paper I cut has a little overhang to fix (more on that later).
Then I centered the white vinyl cut shape, to the best of my ability, to paper circle. Finally, I placed the black symbol on top of the white trying to have even edges around the whole symbol. And that’s it!
Under the Dome
The next step was adding the dome, and this is where I made a little extra work for myself from earlier. But to start, I placed a few dots of super glue on the construction paper and pressed down the clear dome cabochon glass on top. The center needs to match here for this to turn out any sort of good.
Matching the edges was less of an issue than I anticipated it to be. However, there was an overhang that I was not expecting. That’s what happens when you think the diameter is 1-inch and it is actually 0.98 inches. Those 0.02 inches actually show. I used a straight edge to cut around the edge and get rid of the excess. While this is a decent solution, doing it right from the offset is definitely the better way to go.
Finishing Touches
The last step is adding the magnet to the other side of the construction paper. The magnets that I got come with a sticky surface, but I found that to be insufficient. Some of the magnets came apart after hanging on the fridge for a few hours. That’s why I added a smidgen of super glue to the area between the paper and magnet. Just to give it that little extra stick.
Reflections
Oh.. My… Goooosh…. I love these!!! They are super pretty and have a really finished look that I really appreciate. They are also not as rough to make as doing word titles. I felt like they added a perfect pop of color. And the symbols are already gorgeous, so this is just an extra bonus for decoration. And considering my love of Arkham, having more touches of Arkham around the house is always appreciated.
Lessons
Glue versus Weight
It’s always important to think about the weight of the project when picking an adhesive. Some adhesives just can’t hold certain amounts of weight. I liken it to command strips. The size and type can vary the load it can handle. It’s also important to keep in mind how the adhesive dried (if it dries like glue). Some of them lose stick when exposed to air if they are not properly sealed. Others don’t care about that.
