October 2024 Bullet Journal | Halloween

A Bullet Journal is a great way to keep your life in one place and have notes on what you need to do while being creative!

September was by far the busiest month I have had this year. Between covering my project, the kitty going through cancer radiation, and traveling for work there has been so little time. I feel like I typically want to get more done in the next month. But for October? I wouldn’t mind if life slowed down a bit.

I am very excited for the weather to turn. The trees are starting to change color and soon it will be in full swing. Plus, I adore sweater season. I own too many sweaters and love any excuse to wear them. And the weather getting colder is the most reasonable.

October

October is spooky month. I really love all the creepy and dark horror type stuff so this is definitely my favorite month of the year. Deciding what to do for the October cover page felt like a conversation with myself. I was thinking about witches and potions, Jack-o-Lanterns, all the typical Halloween vibes.

But then I thought, what kind of medium do I want to use? Do I want to use something I’ve used before or something new? What would feel like a good change? I decided I wanted to cover page to reflect what I wanted my month to be: simple.

The best way to accomplish this is to do a pure, single-color image. I wanted to do the classic spooky house with creepy trees and bats. I started with a simple sketch before using a pen to draw the outline. Then it was time to clean up the pencil marks before filling the entire outline with black ink.

I used a marker because I found that to be easier, but I really think any medium could have worked for coloring. But I really loved how this cover page was easy to do. But it also taught me how many different shades of black there are between different types of markers. And how some markers bleed through the pages more than others.

October Habits and Calendar

Going to the habit and calendar page, figuring out what to do was a bit trickier. Well, sort of. I didn’t want to do another house because that just felt out of place. Plus, some part of me didn’t want to have a ground section again.

I did end up putting in part of the tower to mimic the cover page because the marker bled through and was very obvious. Leaning in felt like the only option to make it look more intentional. For the rest of the space, I decided to go with bats for the design because things that were more in the sky just felt right.

Last Month’s Habits

Despite how busy I was last month, I’m actually proud of myself for accomplishing as many habits as I did. I think I was able to each one at least once which is a first for this year. A little sad to admit that one.

2025 Bullet Journal

It’s already that time of year! I designed the 2025 Bullet Journal. I did change the inside design a little bit, but I really love the final product and all the different options for covers. I also decided to go with a soft cover to have more designs and less expensive options. But I did leave one hardcover (no slip covers this year). And I am doing a free giveaway! Check out more here.
