A Bullet Journal is a great way to organize your life, keep notes on what you need to do, and organize your hopes /dreams while being creative!
Where did all the time go? I thought I would have had more time in March to post but it just slipped away. I guess that makes sense when you’re traveling across an ocean. And experience 50 escape rooms in 14 days was a whole other level of wild. The amount of horror escape rooms in Barcelona and Spain is amazing, and terrifying. The irrational fears these rooms can create (because it’s always safe and you’re just dealing with an actor) is wild.
But I can’t change the past and do everything. Honestly, I’m not sure I am able to do that in the present. One step at a time seems like a healthy way to move forward. I meant to post this last week but here we are 9 days into April, and I feel like I’m in monsoon season. The streets have flooded, and the rain just keeps coming. There are moments of reprieve but not many.
And while looking at rain based designed, I came across a quote that really resonated with me:
When it rains, look for rainbows
It’s such a simple phrase but it brought a smile to me and that’s what I find important. Normally June is my rainbow focused month, but why limit myself like that? And the idea of combining rain and rainbows into rainbow rain just felt very fun.

April
I started with the month title in the top right corner. This is the only corner I hadn’t put a title in for the last three months spreads. Now that I have hit all four corners, I am wondering if I will keep the font / design or move to something different.
Then I wanted to figure out where to put the quote. Since it impacted my design so much, I wanted to include it somewhere in the spread. One great thing about journaling for me is finding fonts. Words can be drawn in so many ways and font generation sites have so much inspiration. I wanted the word rain to look like water, rainbow turned out more art deco for some reason.
I included the habit tracker and calendar as usual (see the section below) and then it was time to draw the background. I figured it was time to introduce some rain, so I found some places to put clouds and fill the rest with raindrops. This is where I had to make some decisions.
What colors should the words be? And what about the raindrops? Some part of me really liked having the rain have a rainbow effect with gray clouds. It did take some time to mull over weather I wanted to color everywhere or in columns. I went with columns because I thought having a mixed rainbow might seem a bit more muddled.
April Habit Tracker / Calendar
I kept the habit tracker relatively the same as I am really enjoying the multi-table effect that I have been getting. But I did decide to go in a different direction with the calendar. I decided it was time to switch up how the days were labeled (both day of the week and numbers).
Sometimes black really helps make color pop. So, I wanted to have the days of the week be colorful and encased in a black oval. It turned out well, but I did learn two lessons. I should have made the letters bigger and bolder – this would help keep them clear when filling in the black. One slight slip and I changed some of the letters…
Two was contrast. I didn’t always think about how the color would contrast to the black since it hasn’t really mattered since I started using these new markers. While I can see everything when looking closely, the dark blue became the most obscured.
For the number on the days, I wanted to go a little extreme because I felt that would give a cool effect. And I do think I managed to accomplish that. Each number is almost as big as the square which results in a fun tall and skinny look. It didn’t leave much room in the squares but I don’t really do enough for that to matter.
How did last month’s HABIT TRACKER go?
This last month was a bit different since I did not have access to a lot of my habits – weather that was the time or a physical object. I didn’t have any instruments so I couldn’t play, and travel took up so much of my time. On the swing side, I ended up doing a lot more walking than I do in an average day so… positives?
