2025 Bullet Journal: August

A Bullet Journal is a great way to organize your life, keep notes on what you need to do, and organize your hopes /dreams while being creative!

This year has been weird. It is hot and rainy and just kind of bleh outside which doesn’t feel great for summer. Luckily, there is some reprieve to the heat and humidity indoors during the day. And the evenings (minus some of the humidity) were relatively pleasant for walks outside.

While I do not like bugs, I do have a fondness for fireflies. Their little lights are just charming and entrancing. And so, I wanted to do a spread that gave them a bit of a highlight. I thought it would be fun to have them floating up from glass jars and bottles since catching fireflies in a jar feels like classic imagery.

August

I finally did it! I changed my template! Instead of my normal calendar and giant box of habits, I decided to change it up with a different formatting for the title, calendar, and split my habit tracker into two boxes. I decided to split the habit tracker, moving my standard tracker away from my graph. I put one on the top and the other on the bottom.

The title was sketched to cover the center of the page. I went with a cursive style font for the August title since I thought that looked nice. There was a natural space in the bottom right corner of the design, which felt like the perfect place to put a jar design.

I also decided to put grass around the jar just to give the design a bit more pop. Having multiple colors or some sort of contrast just brings an extra level to any design.

When looking at colors to use for the fireflies, I also thought it would be nice to highlight the title in those colors as well. I started with an orange highlighter to create a border around the title, and then followed that up with the yellow.

Lastly, I filled the page with fireflies. Certain areas remained blocked out while others felt more like free game. I didn’t want to have too many either, because having negative space is just as important as filling the areas.

August Habits and Calendar

I really deviated from my standard formatting. More so for the calendar than the habit tracker. For the Habit tracker, I split my one giant design into two. The standard tracker was etched out on the bottom of the page, and I left spaces to write out the names of each habit. I still used icons as well, but I like having the names written out. Especially with the grid fully filled out.

The graph tracker was more of an open square. But I did get to make a change I was quite excited for. Normally, I would align the scale with the dotted lines, but the days were always aligned more with the space in between. The trackers didn’t have to follow the same rules since they were no longer connected. Which means I aligned the days with the dotted lines as well. I think this will make it easier to create a more consistent graph since each point will not align with a dot.

The calendar was a major change. Normally, I would make a square grid, but this time, I went with a line system. Each point on the line is marked as a different day (assuming it was not covered by the title). Then I drew a line off the days to identify events and other dates. It’s simple, but I really like it.

Last Month’s Habits

July was honestly a really good month, and I am going to credit that solely to drumming. Something about drumming has brought me real peace and calm that I haven’t felt in some time. Which I find ironic since my heart starts pumping when I drum. But bringing that calmness in allowed me to stay present. And I was able to do so much that I was proud of.

Reminder Page: SHELVES OF COMPLETION

Sometimes it’s nice to be able to see all the things you have accomplished/done/watched over the year. And I love to be able to log something when it’s finished. I used a shelf motif to keep track of the things I’ve done, from board games to books, to video games, and television.

This year, I have a major focus on video games. There was a considerable backlog of puzzle-type games to get through, and I was thrilled to have the chance to play them. Some were amazing. Others, not so much. But they were completed, which is nice to see. It feels like an accomplishment even if it’s for a hobby.
