A Bullet Journal is a great way to keep your life in one place and have notes on what you need to do while being creative!
The leaves have fallen, and the snow has hit the ground. December is here and I am ready to be overwhelmed by the Holidays. Since it’s the end of the year, I feel like there is so much to do and so little time. But before I get too buried in any of that, it’s time for a new bullet journal spread.
December did really hit like a brick this year. December 1st, it snowed. And then it continued to snow. And I think it’s not going to stop. The clean white snow is such a joy to look at. I find myself sitting and staring out of the window. Just watching the snow. And since it’s snowed so much, I decided to include it in the December spread.

This year, I decided I wanted to do something with presents. But I also wanted it to be comically exaggerated. I was aiming for an almost Dr. Suess vibe. Which is why I decided to make the stack leaning over. After all, it is very easy to associate the holidays with presents and abundance.
While I wanted to draw presents as my main feature in the spread, I thought that just doing that alone wouldn’t be enough. This became more clear to me when I blocked out the calendar and did a first sketch of the leaning tower of presents. I then decided to add some simple ornaments as well. And finally, I sketched out some snow.
This December spread benefitted a lot from a first sketch. There are a lot of pieces and parts that interact with others. It’s better to know these things in advance because it prevents extra lines and keeps everything in the correct space. This is especially true for the snow covered letters.
I wanted to keep it simple in terms of the colors when I was filling it in. With this in mind, I kept myself limited in colors because I thought that would be the easiest way to get the look I was aiming for. Originally, I only picked out red and a pair of greens, but I quickly realized that it might be too limited. Then I added brown, tan, and gold. These colors added more variety without being too loud.
December Habits and Calendar
I kept a similar spread in terms of calendar and habits as last month. It worked out well for me, so I thought it made sense to keep using the layout. I put the calendar on the front page surrounded by the drawings. The calendar ended up being a five by seven grid. December worked much better considering it started on a Monday and ended on a Wednesday. It fits the grid much easier.
I kept the two habit trackers separated and put the “one line a day” between them. While writing on the center crease can be difficult, it still works really well. I wanted to keep the lettering somewhat similar as well to tie the two spreads together. When I realized I had a little extra space, I added a shelf of presents as well.

My Pen Stopped Working
While filling in the sketched, I realized that I didn’t have a gold pen I use on the regular. But I figured that I must have one somewhere. The pen that I found looked perfect, I could still see the ink. But then it wouldn’t write, and I was confused. While sitting around, the pen tip clogged up with ink, and I found the best way to rectify this was to dip the tip of the pen in hot water. The heat allows for the ink to release and helps get rid of the clog.
