Great British Bake Off Challenge Week 7 Showstopper: Sfogliatelle

It's the end of Italian week and that means it’s time for the Showstopping challenge. I’m not going to lie; this is the challenge I have been most afraid of since I began this journey. Because this week’s challenge is sfogliatelle. It something that my spell check doesn’t recognize! Heck, I’m still not sure I know what it is. Sfogliatelle seems like a crazy amount of work and effort. But I made it here so I can’t stop now. And when have I ever back down from a challenge? (Don’t answer that). My sfogliatelle is inspired by the recipe that Stephen made on the show.

White Chocolate Bavarois

I made a white chocolate bavarois as two of my many layers for the showstopper challenge of my Great British Bake-Off Challenge: Week 5. This ended up being the third and the fifth layer of the trifle terrine. Luckily, I only had to make one batch of the white chocolate bavarois which then split into the two layers. This layer was relatively sweet from the white chocolate and sugar that was put in it. It adds a creamy layer to the terrine and makes the whole dessert come together wonderfully.

Great British Bake Off Challenge Week 5 Technical: Molten Chocolate Pudding

The Week 5 Technical is something I was very excited about: Molten Chocolate Pudding!! Who doesn’t like chocolate? Especially that gooey center! That sounds absolutely irresistible! This was quite a challenge, and I definitely underestimated the difficulty of this challenge. My baking instinct betrayed be for this pudding (cake). But that’s what a technical challenge is all about so let’s get to it!

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Before I jump back into doing my Great British Bake-Off Challenge, I wanted to do a warm-up bake to shake the rust off my baking skills. I decided to do a classic: chocolate chip cookies!! Seeing as I decided to post this on 3/14, I’m a little disappointed that I didn’t decide to make a pie… But cookies are so easy to make, and they are absolutely delicious. And I am so excited to be working in the new space! It’s not complete yet but we are so close to finished! So let's get baking!

Microwave Mug Cake

Week five without a kitchen and I am beginning to lose my mind. My sweet tooth is going absolutely crazy, so I thought it was time to try out a microwave mug cake. It seemed like the perfect treat to make to satisfy my craving for sweets. And it’s quick and easy to make, although you do need some utensils for measuring. But this cake is full of chocolatey goodness, and it hits the spot for anyone craving cake but who doesn’t want to make a whole cake.

Orange Ganache

Chocolate Ganache is classical a mixture of chocolate and cream that can be used as a frosting, a spread, a dip, or a topping! Ganache is very versatile as it can have different textures depending on the ratio of chocolate to cream. To stay true to the Jaffa inspired Millionaire’s shortbread, I wanted to have an orange infused chocolate ganache! This ganache is silky smooth without bringing too much sweetness to the dessert which made it perfect to add to my GBBO Challenge Week Four: Signature!

Great British Bake Off Challenge – Week One Technical

The next challenge is the Week One Technical: Mini Peppermint Rolls. The Judges asked for mini swiss rolls made from chocolate cake and filled with a Peppermint Buttercream Frosting. Each roll is finished with mix of dark and milk chocolate and a white chocolate decoration. After trying this challenge, all I have to say is that Prue is evil. This is a difficult technical challenge and one I did not think I would ever complete! After trying the original recipe available on the Bake-Off Site and failing miserably with it. I went off on my own to find one that could work for me. I’m not sure if the difference in ingredients between Britain and America had anything to do with why I kept failing at this (I don’t really think it did) but the original recipe definitely requires skill. Since I do not have that skill, I made a simpler version that cheats in places…

Homemade Chocolate Cookies

I can’t lie, I love chocolate. Chocolate chip cookies have always been my favorite but this recipe allowed me to indulge on chocolate even more. And the soft texture is absolutely perfect, it feels like this cookie is the perfect combination of chewy and soft that I’ve been aiming for. I do believe this recipe will end up being one of my go to recipes as these got devoured very very quickly. Continue Reading →

Banana Chocolate Muffins

We have all been there. You open the fridge, and a bunch of brown bananas are staring back at you. I don’t like throwing away food, so my first thought goes to baking. And what better use of muffins than to make Banana bread??? Well, more accurately, banana bread muffins! I prefer muffins over bread because the portions are already done so you don’t have to worry about slicing it and the cook time is decreased since the baked mass is smaller. Continue Reading →
