Baked Catfish

Being pescatarian, I am always experiment good fish recipes. Recently I found that I have a deep love for catfish. It’s absolutely delicious and can be cooking in so many different ways but today I wanted to go over a baked catfish recipe.

Check out the Make section of MCG for more fun recipes like desserts and savory dishes.

The best part of this dish is how easy and fast it is to prepare. There really is only 5 minutes of prep time and approximately 15 minutes of cook time. And with that, you’ll have a lovely golden brown meal. This recipe takes only a few ingredients, and it’s very easy to mix and match what you want for flavor.

I like to mix the cornmeal with old bay seasoning, cumin, and paprika. But I’ve had some fun with chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, lemon pepper, and many more. Really, just feel free to play for any spices you have lying around the house. There are many fun options and mixtures to discover.

Next, you want to make sure to salt and pepper the fish. It’s an important step to impart even more flavor into the fish. At this point, I like to pour the cornmeal mixture out onto a plate.

I use a paper plate because I’m lazy but it doesn’t make too much of a mess on a normal plate as well. The plate will make dredging the fish much easier. Then just place the fish on a sheet tray and drizzle with a small amount of olive oil.

I probably should have mentioned to preheat the oven sooner but you’ll want to have the oven preheated to 435 degrees F. I like to use the convection bake setting on the oven because it allows a nice and crispy crust on the fish. Then, just a short fifteen minute bake later, the cooking is done! Enjoy your delicious basked fish!
