New Year, New Journal

One thing I love about the new year is the idea of getting a fresh start and for me that means a new bullet journal! Preparing for the new year always takes some extra steps as I have to reset my calendar, goals and do a new level 10 life spread!

This year, I found a galaxy themed journal which I think fits me very well. And on the opening page is my motto (which, yes, I totally stole from Firefly).

Check out the Craft section of MCG for other journal bullet designs or more unlimited ideas.

“Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand. I don’t care, I’m still free, you can’t take the sky from me”

– Firefly (2002)

One of the most important early pages in a new bullet journal is a key. I like using boxes to show my daily tasks but I also have a couple other symbols to mark non-tasks.

I have to keep track of everything otherwise I’ll tend to forget it. I also have a key for colors since I use the highlighters to for all of my calendars. The page got a little crinkled when I was erasing my pencil outline, always something to be careful of!!

Because it is the beginning of the year, I like to do a year at a glance spread that shows all of the events I have coming up! I use this space to highlight holidays, birthdays, travel and other important big events.

Establish my goals for the upcoming year is also something that is important to me. I really like have a visualization for some of my goals, especially for savings and writing projects. I also set aside boxes for some of my broader reaching goals.

With my house under construction, I do have some goals focused on getting the house to the right state. And, of course, there is always the social media goals.

I think the new years is also a good time to look at my level ten life spread. Level 10 life is a focus on making yourself satisfied with different aspects of your life. I picked eight for this year: health, environment, giving, fun, relationship/partnership, development, finances, and family/friends. T

he goals are more aspirations for continual improvement than anything else. I try to make these goals SMART (Specific, Measured, Achievable, Relative, Timed) but I’m not always successful. But hey, sometimes it’s okay to reach for the stars?

I also use the bar graph to indicate where I currently feel I am with that category. It’s important to remind myself that this page is a guide, and not a chore! <3

To determine my level 10 life goals, I often ask myself some questions to help dictate where I want the year to go.

  • Am I happy with this aspect of my life?
  • What would make me happier?
  • Do I want to spend more time in this area?
  • Do I have healthy boundaries and expectations?

Since we’re here, I also wanted to share my spread for January!! Just like last year, the beginning of my month includes a monthly calendar, a mood tracker and a habit tracker. This month, theme is lights because I hope the new year will be full of light, joy and new ideas! I am very excited for this new beginning and to put 2020 in the past.

So with that, there is just one more things to say: Hello 2021!! 🙂
